Upon completion of the Academy, you will be eligible to take the IL Office of State Fire Marshal Basic Operations state exam, Hazardous Materials Operations, and Technical Rescue Awareness exams to receive state certifications which are required by most fire departments for hire.
You as the student will be required to complete:
NIMS Training There are also requirements that need to be met prior to the beginning of the Academy start date.
Upon receipt of your application an interview will be scheduled and your application will be reviewed. Please note that you must have a completed physical a year prior to the academy start date. If you have not had a physical done, you can use the form attached to the application to be completed by your primary physician. You will receive notification of acceptance into the academy once you are deemed eligible.
Two letters of recommendation are due on the date of your interview and a valid CPAT card must be completed by the end of the academy. Once in the Academy, you as a Volunteer member of the BFPD need to maintain a 80% grade average throughout the Academy or you will be dismissed from the Academy and the BFPD. A monthly ride along is required by the Fire Chief. Also as a Volunteer member of the BFPD you may be asked to be involved in various district projects which require mandatory attendance.
The Bensenville Fire Academy strives to teach the OSFM Fire Basic Program to its maximum potential and level while not only meeting the minimum state standards but exceeding them. The Bensenville Fire Academy offers the fire candidate instruction from certified well trained experienced instructors and a supportive and well organized administration. Academy resources available to candidates include a forcible entry door, a smoke maze training facility, a roof training simulator, sixteen hours of live structural firefighting, a designated academy engine, a newly renovated interactive training classroom and many other training tools.
The Basic Operations certification can transfer into college credits.
The program is registered with the Veteran Affairs and qualifies for the GI Bill.
The payment plan is paid in 4 installments. Each installment is automatically paid from credit or debit card once a month for four (4) months.
1st installment will include a $500.00 deposit. More details will be provided during orientation.

*NO REFUND POLICY*
* There are no refunds of class fees for a class canceled after the first day of class.* After the refund deadline date, students who cancel a class, or students dropped from a class by the instructor, or student dropped from a class due to nonpayment, are NOT entitled to a refund of class fees.
* The only exception to this policy is when the department cancels the class. In this instance, the fees charged for the canceled class will be refunded.
