2017-2018 Student Ambassador Program Application
The Mayor’s Fitness Council is looking for role models, leaders, idea creators, and change makers to empower their schools, friends, and families to lead healthier lives!
The mission of the Mayor's Fitness Council Student Ambassador Leadership Program is to involve San Antonio youth in Mayor Taylor's initiative to improve the health of San Antonio. As an ambassador you will represent the Mayor's Fitness Council at your school campus!
Applicants who serve as Student Ambassadors must be in grades 5th-12th during the 2017-2018 academic year and attend a school in Bexar County. Student Ambassadors must be able to maintain passing academic scores in all subject areas in order to serve this one-year term.
As a Student Ambassador, you’ll get to:
Attend a Student Ambassador Orientation Training;
Attend two trainings on the benefits of physical activity and healthy eating; peer education; service learning; advocacy and civic engagement; and participation in school wellness councils;
Complete a roadmap of your school, after school, home, and neighborhood related to physical activity and nutrition;
Map out your plan for implementing a service project to improve nutrition and physical activity at your school campus or in your community;
Present before a panel of community leaders about your idea and then work to implement your service project;
Provide written progress reports on your project;
Produce videos, photos, blogs, etc. to document your success to educate others;
Participate and attend the Fall Siclovia and;
Be Recognized at the End of the Year Recognition Ceremony and showcase your service project and;
As an official Mayor's Fitness Council Student Ambassador you and your family will enjoy a complimentary YMCA family membership to enjoy for the 2017-2018 academic year at your nearest YMCA of Greater San Antonio location compliments of the YMCA!
Application must be submitted by Friday, May 12, 2017. The Mayor's Fitness Council Healthy Schools Committee will select approximately 40 students for the 2017-2018 Student Ambassador Program. Applicant selection is based on 1) quality of completed application, 2) student essay and in-person interview, and 3) representation from various Bexar County ISD's, Private and Charter Schools and Homeschooling programs.
