The Herald-Whig is once again publishing a special "Heroes" section. Heroes is a chance to give recognition to those who make our community better, to those who freely give of themselves without seeking any recognition or affirmation for doing so.
We are asking our readers to submit the names of people who have given selflessly to causes — delivering meals, traveling to disasters, helping with church-related projects, people who help in local classrooms, giving cheer to patients in a hospital or nursing home, volunteer coaches — and usually receive little more than a handshake, a pat on the back or a hug in return.
The definition of hero is left intentionally vague and open to interpretation. Feel free to nominate anyone you feel is deserving of the name. There is no limit to nominations one may make.
Deadline for nominations is Feb. 24, 2017.
