GUIDELINES FOR FORMATTING ESSAYS

Your essay should be uploaded as a part of the application on the website.

Follow the guidelines below as you complete your essay(s):

Cover Page: Begin the paper by centering on the front page of your essay, the title of the paper, your name, and the date.

Title: Your essay should include a title. The title should be centered on line 13 of the first page. The title should be in the same fonts as the rest of your essay, with no quotation marks, no underlining, no italics, and no bold.

Fonts: Your essay should be word processed in 12-point Times New Roman Fonts.

Spacing: Double space the entire essay There should not be extra spaces between paragraphs.

Margins:

First Page: Leave a two-inch margin (or 13 returns) for the top margin to begin typing the title of the paper.

Second & Succeeding Pages: Leave a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, left, and right margins.

Page Numbers: The page number should appear centered at the bottom of the page. Exclude the page number on the cover page.

Indentation: The first line of each paragraph should be indented. This indentation should be 1/2 inch or five spaces, but pressing [Tab] once should give you the correct indentation.

Alignment: Align Left. The text of the essay should be lined up evenly at the left margin but not at the right margin. In your word processor, choose "Align Left." Do not choose "Justify."
