Duration of Burn: The release of smoke must ease after 72 hours; if smoke continues to be released after this length of time, the fire must be extinguished
Smoke Free Periods: Open burns must be separated by a smoke free period of 15 days
Venting: Open burns may only take place when BC's Venting Index Interactive Map says YES. (this is the link to the map - it is also located on this link to our SSIFR website)
If venting conditions are sufficient to initiate open burning in a zone, a green diamond will appear with the word "YES" inside. If venting is insufficient to initiate open burning, a red circle will appear with the word "NO" inside.
Regardless of the venting index, fires must not be initiated if local airflow would likely cause smoke that negatively impacts nearby population areas.
