  • Design the City of Mount Dora's Flag!

At an elevation of 184 feet above sea level, Mount Dora is Florida’s equivalent of a mountain top town. With a population of approximately 15,000, Mount Dora evokes that quiet and comfortable “Southern” charm and hospitality of a lakefront community nestled amongst the gentle hills of Central Florida. In an effort to expand civic pride, the City of Mount Dora is calling for your help to design her flag.
  • Be Inspired

Before you even begin your design, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you watch this awesome TED Talk: Why city flags may be the worst designed thing you've never noticed. We promise you'll be inspired!

  • Now here's the scoop . . .

Designs will be presented to the Mount Dora City Council for final approval for a flag dedication ceremony on Flag Day, June 14, 2017 with the council, the Public Arts Commission and the winning designer.

Open to all: No matter where you live. No matter your age. All are welcome to submit designs.

Submit up to 5 designs: Via either snail mail or electronically via this form.

    DEADLINE:

Postmarked or submitted here by WED, MARCH 22, 2017.

All entries will be judged based on the North American Vexillological Association's (NAVA) five design priciples:

    • Keep It Simple. The flag should be so simple that a child can draw it from memory.

    • Use Meaningful Symbolism. The flag’s images, colors, or patterns should relate to what it symbolizes.

    • Use 2-3 Basic Colors. Limit the number of colors on the flag to three, which contrast well and come from the standard color set.

    • No Lettering, Logos or Seals. Never use writing of any kind or an organization’s seal.

    • Be Distinctive or Be Related. Avoid duplicating other flags, but use similarities to show connections.

  • How To Submit
