Vermont-NEA's annual, one-day Representative Assembly consists of two important business sessions and is the Association’s ultimate decision-making body. It is our only statewide general membership meeting of the year. We will discuss education and Association matters, introduce new business items and resolutions, and meet and network with fellow members.
This year’s Representative Assembly will convene at 8:30 a.m. A continental breakfast will be available to all attendees beginning at 7:00 a.m. We will follow our traditional annual meeting format, with both business sessions and the Awards Luncheon held on the same day. In the event that our business sessions do not conclude by noontime, we will reconvene immediately following our Awards Luncheon.
At the Awards Luncheon, the 2017 winners of the Vermont-NEA ESP Award, Angelo J. Dorta Teaching Excellence Award, and the Human and Civil Rights Award will be publicly announced and will have an opportunity to address the audience. Ten $1,000 Vermont-NEA Maida F. Townsend education scholarships will be awarded to the children of Association members. The Awards Luncheon always is a truly uplifting event that celebrates our professional mission and our dedicated members and students. This is always an entertaining celebration. Please make every effort to stay for both the luncheon and any remaining business we may have to attend to following the luncheon.

Delegates at the Representative Assembly are empowered to make crucial decisions about finances, governance, and future Association directions on behalf of 12,000 members. A stronger Association with greater solidarity and vision will be a more successful advocate for its members and students. The following will be on the agenda, some requiring a vote:
Budget review and a recommendation for the setting of dues in 2017-2018
New Business Items to spur Association action for the following year (You may submit a NBI at the RA)
Candidates for Association elective offices will be recognized
Proposed resolutions--statements of Association goals, beliefs, and intent covering a host of education and union issues--will be explained and debated.
Bylaws changes and modifications (an effort to update and streamline the bylaws.
We will be holding our annual silent auction to support the NEA Fund for Children and Public Education at the Representative Assembly. This is a great opportunity for you to support this political action fund and go home with some terrific items donated by our staff and board directors! Bring some extra cash so that you may participate!
