  • Please use this application for proposing to operate a business out of a single-family dwelling. Home Businesses are done within the dwelling and generally not outside of it within sight. Two types of businesses are permitted in dwellings.

       1. A no-impact home-based business

            a. Must meet Amity Zoning Ordinance Section 903 (c)

            b. Is permitted by right

        2. A Home Occupation

            a. Must meet Amity Zoning Ordinance Section 903 (b)

            b. Must be granted a Conditional Use by Board of Supervisors in the RC, LDR & MDR Districts

    Please be aware. If you intend to use more than 10% of existing floor area of the dwelling for the business, the dwelling will then be classified as a commercial live-work building and is subject to the commercial building code and must include H/C parking, other elements and fire separation.

  • Will there be any employees, other than family members residing in the dwelling?*
  • Will there be any stockpiling of inventory of a substantial nature?*
  • Will there be any outside appearance of a business use?*
  • Will there be any  business activity that uses any equipment or process which creates noise, vibration, glare, fumes, odors or electrical or electronic interference, including interference with radio or television reception, which is detectable in the neighborhood?*
  • Will there be any business activity that will generate any solid waste or sewage discharge, in volume or type, which is not normally associated with residential use in the neighborhood?*
  • Any customer or client traffic, whether vehicular or pedestrian in excess of those normally associated with residential use?*
  • Will the business be operated only within the dwelling?*
  • I hereby certify the code administrator and code inspectors shall have the authority to enter areas covered by such permit application at any reasonable hour to inspect existing conditions applicable to such permit application*
  • I, the applicant, hereby agree to electronically sign my permit and agree to install the improvements only in accordance with the permit and will conform to the requirements of the existing Ordinances of the Township of Amity and Laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. I understand there are required inspections listed on the back of the permit that I must get approved prior to occupying the improvement. The permit will not relieve me from complying with other governmental regulations, deed restrictions or covenants outside the jurisdiction of Amity Township.*

  • All contractors and installers performing residential improvements must provide a certificate of insurance naming Amity Township as a Certificate Holder. All contractors performing improvements on commercial buildings or new home construction must obtain an Amity Township Contractor's License. Applications are available on this website.

    Once the application is received, permit processing typically takes 7-10 business days. Please check your email during this process as we may contact you for additional information that may be required or that your permit is ready for final processing. Permit fees will be due upon issuance of the permit. Permit fees can be found on the Building Department web page.
