What is the purpose of community?
What value or meaning does community bring to our lives?
What kind of community do you want to build or belong to?
What are the needs of those within our communities?
In building Humanist communities, we will look at defining the purpose of community as an essential element to understanding members' needs, desires, and wants. We will explore how knowing the reasons for why humanists, atheists, agnostics, and other secular people gather is key to building a successful community. Whether the purpose for meeting is for intellectual stimulation, to effect change, or simply for social engagement, acquiring a clear idea of what are the needs of individuals within a community can be the difference between growth and stagnation.
Join Kristin Wintermute, Executive Director of The Humanist Institute, and Chris Stedman, Humanist community organizer, for a conversation about how to build, and be, in community--both on your campus and after your graduate.
