  • United Methodist Conference and Agency Visits to Candler

The Office of Methodist Studies at Candler helps United Methodist Conferences plan their visits to see students from your conference or engage with students in general.

Here are some of the things we can help with:

    • Clarify the purpose of your visit
    • Reserve space for student interviews and/or space out in public areas to
      engage with all students
    • Set up electronic appointment sign up and provide a list of who has signed up
    • Provide hospitality with snacks and drinks

Plan visits early. Productive visits are planned at least four weeks in advance. Start planning by filing out this form:

    • Tips for engaging with Candler students outside of your conference:
    • Announce your visit
      • Provide the text in the space below for a warm welcoming invitation to the Methodist studies office that will be used to let students know you are coming (when, where, who, what)
      • Describe your conference or agency in the announcement
        • Location
        • History
        • Opportunities for ministry (urban, rural, new church starts, demographics)
        • Do you have any special scholarships or financial support?
        • A sample announcement is at this link
    • Set up a display table in one of the floor lobbies or atrium
      • Dress it up with a cloth and signage
      • Provide give aways, business cards, brochures, flyers
      • Candy and/or food, drinks, coffee, are always helpful in increasing traffic (no eating in the Candler building due to COVID)
      • If you have to be away from the table, provide a note stating when you will be back and leave your business cards
    • Take students to lunch or dinner at a restaurant in Emory Village
      • Students may not have time to talk to you one on one but most likely have time for a meal
    • Attend Chapel
    • Follow up
      • With a Thank-you that can be posted on the Methodist studies announcements web page
      • With students that you saw during the visit. The office of Methodist studies will provide a list of signups to you
  • Please check the Academic Calendar for first and last days of classes and holiday breaks.
