Senior Staff positions are usually held by individuals who have served on staff at NMUN•NY for three or more years, and who demonstrate both leadership within staff and commitment to the conference. Senior Staff positions include:
Chief of Staff/Assistant Chief of Staff: The areas of responsibility for the Chiefs of Staff (COS) and Assistant Chiefs of Staff (ACOS) are: planning and execution of staff travel and lodging for both fall staff and the conference in spring; logistics for opening ceremonies, closing ceremonies, and plenary sessions; coordination of training with the Secretaries-General and Deputy Secretaries-General for both fall and spring; staff communication and support including creating newsletters, maintaining internal communication channels, and handling accommodation requests; coordination with the hotels for venue needs during the conference (usually with the Chief of Staff managing Sheraton and Assistant Chief of Staff managing Hilton communications); assistance with supply and service acquisition such as conference-branded merchandise; and management of staff events such as food and drink catering and social activities. The Chief of Staff position specifically also includes collaboration with the NCCA office and other Executive Staff positions, and working to create a safe, inclusive, and healthy environment for staff and participants.
Assistant Secretary-General: In addition to his or her primary responsibility for the NMUN Delegate Seminars, the Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) is also responsible for coordinating opening and closing ceremonies with Executive Staff and the Chief of Staff team. ASGs also tabulate conference awards, as well as liaising with conference participants, including faculty and head delegates, on logistical needs such as briefing room bookings.
Under-Secretaries-General: There are six Under-Secretaries-General (USGs) at each conference week, one for each department: General Assembly, Economic and Social Council, Development, Human Rights & Humanitarian Affairs, Peace & Security, and Conference Services.
Substantive USGs work with Directors and Assistant Directors (ADs) on the writing and editing of background guides within the deadlines set by Executive Staff. They are expected to help suggest committees and topic areas and be aware of the rules of procedure for committees in their department. They must keep in contact with their Directors, ADs, and Executive Staff. At both fall staff training and at the conference, they help train staff. They are responsible for the substantive affairs of their department.
The USG for Conference Services works closely with the Network Manager, Office Manager, and Administrative Assistants (AAs) to build a Conference Services team. In advance of the conference, this USG coordinates vendors and contracts along with the NCCA Executive Director. At NMUN, this individual is responsible for the computer center, copiers, etc.
