The 4-H Youth Employee position is open to all senior age Maryland 4-H Members (4-H age 14-18 years old) for the Maryland State Fair. Youth Employees will work a minimum of 4 hours at a time and pay is $9.25/hr. Employees will receive a State Fair ID and Parking Pass allowing access to the fairgrounds. There are 3 locations where 4-H Youth Employees may work. 4-Hers may apply for as many locations as they like but will be chosen to work in 1 location during the fair. Minimum Age: 14 years old as of July 1st of the current year. Refer to the "4-H Youth Fair Employee Position Description" for more information.
4-H/FFA Home Arts Building
This is the main 4-H Exhibit Hall where non-animal exhibits are on display for the public to view. 4-Hers will assist with the receipt, placement, care and release of exhibits, and general upkeep of the building. There will be extensive interaction with the public, 4-Hers will be required to advocate for 4-H and lead youth activity stations. The building is open from 10am to 10pm on weekends and Labor Day and 12pm to 10pm on weekdays from August 23 – September 5, 2017. Youth may also work during the set up and break down periods of the fair. 4-Hers will need to work a minimum of four 4-hour shifts during the listed application period.
U-Learn Farm
This is an educational space where the public can learn and explore agriculture in Maryland. 4-Hers will assist with the activity stations, and general upkeep of the building. There will be extensive interaction with the public, 4-Hers will be required to advocate for 4-H, agriculture, and lead youth activity stations. The building is open from 10am-9pm on weekends and Labor Day and 10am-7pm on weekdays from August 26 – September 5, 2016. Youth may also work during the setup and breakdown periods of the fair. 4-Hers will need to work a minimum of four 4-hour shifts during the listed application period.
U-Learn Food & Fiber
Formally known as Animal World, this exhibit will connect animals and agriculture to food & fiber you can purchase at the grocery store; field to farm to consumer. 4-Hers will assist with the care and feeding of the exhibits as well as the general upkeep of the facility. There will be extensive interaction with the public and animals, 4-Hers will be required to advocate for 4-H, agriculture, and lead youth activity stations. Employees should have knowledge of animals and should be comfortable around them. The facility is open from 10am to 10pm from Aug 24 – Sep 4, 2017. 4-Hers will need to work a minimum of four 4-hour shifts during the application period listed below.
*All positions will have a mandatory training session provided to assist youth in being prepared to interact with the public.
