*In the spring of 2018 we began to see a few cases of Canine Influenza in New York State. Outbreaks of this highly contagious and serious disease usually occur in dogs that are in boarding kennels, grooming parlors, or areas frequented by many other dogs. There is a very effective vaccine available to prevent the disease, however, it takes two vaccines given two to three weeks apart and a total of 5 to 6 weeks to gain immunity. Although we have not seen any major outbreaks, we want you to be informed and have the option of vaccinating and protecting your dog. If you plan to board your dog or go to grooming parlors we highly recommend that you vaccinate your dog now. Further information is available on our website, www.rhinebeckanimalhospital.com.
In addition, if your pet has not been seen at our clinic within the past year for a wellness visit, they will require an exam with a veterinarian in order to receive the overdue vaccinations, which may be done during their stay.
