Wondering how many ounces equivalent M/MA you will get from a food item? This calculator does the math for you in a few simple steps.

First, open the Food Buying Guide.

Click here to access the Meat / Meat Alternate Food Buying Guide in the app. Then click the "export" icon in the upper right corner to open it outside of the My School RD app.

When you're ready, click Next to continue.

Now search through the Food Buying Guide to find the description that best matches your food item. When you're ready, click Next to continue.

What is the name of your ingredient?* This field is required.This description should match a description from the first column in the Food Buying Guide

How many servings does your recipe make? * This field is required.If you only need the amount for 1 serving, just type 1.

What is the weight, in OUNCES, of your meat ingredient?* This field is required.This must be the weight, in ounces, for the calculator to work.

Now, look at the row in the Food Buying Guide that matches your ingredient. What number is written in Column 3, "Servings Per Purchase Unit, EP?* This field is required.If you have a choice of portion sizes, please use the 1 oz equivalent portion size.

Last Step! Yay! Okay, so in Column 2, "Purchase Unit," what are the number of ounces listed? (1 pound = 16 ounces. If the Food Buying Guide says 1 pound, then type 16)If you are using a drained weight for items like canned beans, then write the drained weight, in ounces, from column 6. Remember we need ounces, not pounds, though, so multiply the decimal number by 16 and type the answer in the box.
