Susan Saunders Langford and Thad Langford grew up in Salisbury and Lexington NC respectfully. They did not come from wealthy families, which made tennis a luxury for them all. Susan and Thad won many tournaments including multiple NC State Closed tourneys, the Tar Heel Qualifier and competed at both the southern and national levels. Both Susan and Thad played collegiatley, Susan at NC State and Thad at the University of Arizona. Once out of college and into life, they reconnected. Not too long after that it was a "love match" and they married. A few years later generation #2 came along as Bryson is the light of their lives! She is now a player as well.
They have been very fortuante and blessed. They have decided to give back, thus the The Saunders-Langford Endowment has been created through the NC Tennis Foundation. This endowment is providing juniors the opportunity to play!
This grant is open to any NC junior for consideration who has already played at least 3 tournaments in the last 12 months. He/she will be asked to submit a plan to play at the very least 3 more in the next 12 months. He/she must have already obtained a current NC standing but there is not restriction on ranking. The player must be in need of financial assistance with a family income of no more than $99,000 per year for one child playing and $120,000 for more than one child playing USTA sanctioned events. The junior player must demonstrate excellent sportsmanship and is ineligible if ANY suspension points are accrued over the last 12 months. An emphasis will be given to junior players in towns under 100,000 in population according to the US Census.
