Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA) will, in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and similar Vermont law, provide reasonable accommodations to students with documented disabilities in its educational and residential programs. The essential academic and graduation requirements of VCFA will remain identical for all students with or without disabilities, and VCFA will not provide accommodations that would fundamentally alter the nature of the College’s programs.
A disability covered by the laws referenced above is a physical or cognitive impairment (i.e., (A) any physiological disorder or condition, cosmetic disfigurement, or anatomical loss affecting one or more of the following body systems: neurological; musculoskeletal; special sense organs; respiratory, including speech organs; cardiovascular; reproductive, digestive, genito-urinary; hemic and lymphatic; skin; and endocrine; or (B) any mental or psychological disorder, such as an "intellectual disability", organic brain syndrome, emotional or mental illness, and specific learning disabilities) that substantially limits one or more major life activities. "Major life activities" means functions such as caring for one's self, performing manual tasks, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning, and working.
