    Letter to the Candidates


    Dear Student,

    Thank you for considering becoming a candidate for a leadership position on the Student Association (SA) Membership, indeed, has its privileges but the obligation should not be taken lightly. Candidates will be responsible for completing the attached papers by the published deadlines. If eligible to run for office, only those students who have completed this paperwork will have his/her name listed on the official election ballot. Please be sure to carefully review the guidelines for running for office.

    By expressing your interest to be a Student Association candidate, you are agreeing to take on and uphold the responsibilities and duties outlined in the SGA Constitution and the campus by-laws. The ability to hold a responsible and successful campaign will be one of the main challenges in order to effectively promote what you will bring to your campus Student Association.

  • CRITERIA FOR RUNNING FOR ANY STUDENT ASSOCIATION OFFICE

  • The criteria necessary to be accepted as a candidate for office is the following:

    1. Candidate must be a credit student registered for at least 1 credit, at their respective campus, during their elected term(s) at the College of Southern Maryland
    2. Candidate must have no academic probation status
    3. Candidate must not have had any disciplinary probation
    4. Candidate must have earned and maintained at least a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 throughout the previous academic year (fall – spring)
  • Duties and Responsibilities

  • President

    The President shall preside at all Campus Student Association meetings, act as the official representative of the student body at all appropriate campus specific functions and shall coordinate the activities and projects of the Campus Student Association with the Advisor. This position completes six published office hours a week.
  • Vice President

    The Vice President assists the President in the administration of the Campus Student Association and takes responsibility of the effective planning, management, and evaluation of all Campus Student Activities sponsored events. This position completes six published office hours a week.
  • Secretary

    The Secretary takes accurate minutes at all meetings. Secretary will make copies of all minutes and make them available to voting members, the Advisor, the SGA Executive Board, and the SGA Advisor within one week of any meeting. This Officer will also take pictures at all Campus Student Association events and programs. This position completes four published office hours a week.
  • Treasurer

    The Treasurer is responsible for the appropriate budgeting and expenditure of Campus Student Association funds. The Treasurer ensures that expenditures of student activity funds adhere to SGA guidelines and procedures. This Officer acts as the Chairperson of the Campus Student Association Budget Board. This position completes four published office hours a week.
  • Representative

    The Representative will attend all Campus Student Association Meetings and work on assigned jobs from the President, Vice President, or Treasurer (depending on the student's interest). This position completes four published office hours a week.
