  • Terms:
    Direct Service
    refers to any time spent supporting clients, assisting with data management, or communicating with staff in support of clients. This includes time spent on Helpline or doing face-to-face advocacy, as well as time spent debriefing or emailing/texting staff about a Helpline shift. It can also apply to time spent reviewing resources, shadowing, most office work, etc. Most activities will be Direct Service.

    Indirect Service is time spent doing work that does not directly touch our work with clients. Examples include most non-advocacy administrative work, physical labor, donation sorting, etc.

    Example: Jane took a Helpline shift on July 12 from 4 to 8pm. Later, on July 15, she painted a room at the shelter.
