National Honor Society (NHS) Application

Minimum Requirements to Apply

1.) Attended Compass for at least one full semester prior to the semester you are applying. Transfers from other NHS programs do not have to abide by this rule. If you have not been with Compass for one full semester, please still apply for your application to be considered as an exception to this rule.

2.) Enrolled in 10th grade or above at Compass Charter Schools

3.) Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

4.) 8 points or higher on the Nation Honor Society Selection Rubric - viewable at this link: CCS NHS Selection Rubric

5.) Submission of Application by Deadline noted in the invitation to apply

ELIGIBILITY COMMITMENT

Please read through these commitments and sign if you agree to meet them.

REQUIREMENTS FOR NHS ACTIVE STATUS AND RECOGNITION AT GRADUATION

• Standards: I realize that as a National Honor Society member I will be expected to uphold the standards of exemplary scholarship, leadership, service, and character by which I was selected for membership in National Honor Society. I recognize that these elements are essential to maintaining an active membership in National Honor Society. I understand that if I fail to uphold these standards, my membership will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal.
• Service: I recognize that I shall have the responsibility of choosing and participating in a service project which reflects my particular talents and interests.  I understand that service completed for family members is not accepted. I understand that I will be responsible for completing 45 service hours per school year to stay compliant with CCS NHS service expectations. Each school year the total amount of hours will be sectioned out monthly. Example of a monthly service expectations: Sept – 3 hours, Oct – 6 hours, Nov – 6 hours, Dec – 3 hours, Jan – 3 hours, Feb – 6 hours, Mar – 6 hours, April – 3 hours, May – 6 hours and June – 3 hours. Service hours must be submitted monthly via the link provided by the Chapter Advisor. In some cases, total hours completed in a school year can meet the requirement to submit monthly service hours. In all cases, total service hours must meet or exceed 45 hours per school year.
• Meeting Attendance: I recognize that I am responsible for
  • attending the monthly NHS meetings (virtually) held every 4th Monday of each month @ 3 PM (please note: date may be adjusted to accommodate holidays), OR
  • watch the recording if not able to attend, AND
  • submit the word of the month to document my attendance.

By accepting to join National Honor Society I am indicating that I have read through the requirements for active status in National Honor Society and accept my responsibilities. I am willing to make the serious commitment of time and energy in order to be a productive and positive member.
