Justice of the Peace Fees & Expenses
My fees as a Justice of the Peace are set by the Government of Nova Scotia, and are flat rates. The fees are as follows:
Wedding Ceremony: $200
Rehearsal (optional): $100
Travel Expenses: Gas mileage is charged at the Government rate of 45.85 cents a kilometre (each way) from my home in Middle River (near Baddeck) to the venue, plus any applicable parking fees, ferry tolls, meals and hotels. Travel expenses apply to my trips to and from the rehearsal and ceremony, as well as to and from any pre-wedding meetings/interviews. Hotel overnights are rare, but could occur as a result of severe weather, unexpected road closures, or for any other reason.
Please note that once the wedding ceremony has been performed there are NO refunds of J.P. fees or travel expenses.
A booking deposit of $100 is payable with submission of this form.
PLEASE NOTE: the booking deposit is normally non-refundable, but due to the unprecedented circumstances of the global pandemic emergency, if you need to cancel your wedding due to Covid-19 travel or gathering restrictions, your deposit will be refunded in full.
The balance of all fees is due the week prior to the wedding date.
