Concerns on Java EE Renaming

Dear Oracle, IBM, Red Hat, Eclipse Foundation et al,&#13;&#10;&#13;&#10;First of all, I want to congratulate you and say THANK YOU for the hard work you are doing to open source Java EE. It is a much-appreciated effort and we (the community as a whole) can't wait to get our hands on it!&#13;&#10;&#13;&#10;The Java EE Guardians community has expressed several concerns with regards to renaming Java EE. I agree with these concerns.&#13;&#10;&#13;&#10;- The new name should include the word Java. Indeed most suggestions in the community for a new name start with the word Java. The Java EE Guardians recognize a renaming could have a potential boost on people's perceptions about what we now call Java EE. However at the same time, having Java in its name allows the initiative to benefit from some of the Java brand's power and values. Most of the strongest points of the Java brand align perfectly with the Java EE focus, mainly standardization and long-term support. These are at the core of both Java and Java EE, and really sets Java EE apart from the alternatives. We are aware of the trademark concerns here, but still strongly believe that having Java in the new name is an essential distinction. &#13;&#10;&#13;&#10;- The new technology should continue to use the "javax" packages. I appreciate the effort to allow the future project to continue using the "javax" package name for existing specifications, but that wouldn't be enough. People associate the "javax" prefix with quality and standard APIs. We'll need permission to use it for new specifications if we want to remain seen as the official standard people have trusted for so long. Having to use a new package name for newly created specifications would clearly fragment our APIs and it would be a lot of work to make people understand the reasons.&#13;&#10;&#13;&#10;Please take this email as a personal message, despite it being sent with the help of the Java EE Guardians.&#13;&#10;&#13;&#10;Looking forward to a great new era for Enterprise Java!
