Sybil Bentley Dove Award, Faye Dove Scholarship or CWJC Academic Scholarship

Once application is received, it will be placed for consideration for the scholarship/award in which the applicant is best qualified.

Sybil Bentley Dove Award

This endowment is intended to benefit women who are rebuilding their lives. The ideal recipient should desire to improve herself through the acquisition of skills or academic pursuits which lead to self reliant living and/or to give assistance and nurture to the development of children.

Application will be accepted from all United States. A nominee may be a current or former CWJC participant from a certified site.

WMU directors, CWJC site coordinators, staff, and others personally acquainted with a nominee that is a potential grant recipient may submit a completed application. The WMU Foundation Board of Trustees shall determine the recipient, based on recommendation from the Christian Women's Job Corps/Christian Men's Job Corps National Advisory Council.

This endowment provides a cash disbursement to the recipient as well as a cash disbursement to the nomination site to be used to further the ministry of the site.

The originator is responsible for:

securing endorsements from the site coordinator and mentor
a testimony describing her CWJC experience and/or her faith journey
a copy of the site's national certification certificate
a signed Sybil Bentley Dove Endowment Covenant

Faye Dove Scholarship

The Faye Dove Scholarships will benefit women who have graduated or are currently in a CWJC program. The participant must have demonstrated perseverance in achieving personal goals. The scholarship must be used for some type of continuing education or something related to continuing education (even if non-academic). This scholarship can be used to pay for the specialized training or for anything related to the training (such as: childcare, transportation, fees, materials, etc.)

Consider having participants who are looking at specialized training such as training to become a CNA, EMT Training, Cosmetology or any other short-term specialized training that will provide them a trade or required license that will allow them to access employment. Also remember that funds can be used for anything related to this training such as books, transportation, child care or licensing fees.

The scholarship funds will be sent to the local CWJC site to be distributed to the training program of the participant’s choice or the participant if being used for things such as books, child care etc. Scholarships are typically $2,500 or less.

CWJC Academic Scholarship

The CWJC Academic Scholarship will benefit women who have graduated from a certified CWJC program who desire to pursue their education in a formal two or four year institution with the goal of obtaining an associates or bachelor’s degree. The participant must have demonstrated perseverance in achieving personal goals and show excellent potential for reaching her educational goals. The participant must provide a letter of acceptance to the college/university before funds will be sent.

The participant who receives this scholarship will be allowed to re-apply for this scholarship as long as she is in good standing academically; and there is no guarantee of on-going financial support after the first scholarship. Scholarships are typically $2,500 or less.

Funds will be sent directly to the institution where the participant is enrolled.

Final decisions are made by the WMU Foundation Board

If a scholarship program is granted for the applicant, the National WMU CWJC/CMJC office and WMU Foundation agrees to do the following:

Grant the scholarship monies to the CWJC site for the Faye Dove Scholarships and the accredited academic institution for the CWJC Academic Scholarship
Give visibility to the recipient through press releases, social media, and print articles
Notify the state WMU office

If a scholarship is granted for the applicant, the nominating CWJC site agrees to do the following:

Receive funds on behalf of the recipient if it is a Faye Dove Scholarship recipient
Ensure funds are applied as indicated in the scholarship program
Provide a progress report no later than 1 year after receiving the scholarship
Provide annual reports of the applicant for three years following graduation

If the Sybil Bentley Dove Award is granted for the applicant, the National WMU CWJC/CMJC office and the WMU Foundation agrees to do the following:

Grant the award monies to the CWJC Site for the Faye Dove Scholarships and the accredited academic institution for the CWJC Academic Scholarship.
Give visibility to the recipient through the press releases, social media, and print articles.
Notify the state WMU office.
