Join us for a fascinating cultural, historical, and grammatical deep dive into Boccaccio's medieval masterpiece, the Decameron. This class will be held in person on March 20 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm and is for Intermediate level students.
We'll read the story of Andreuccio da Perugia and explore how this story fits into the Decameron as well as compare the story of Andreuccio's misadventures in Naples to the cinematic version from Pier Paolo Pasolini's 1971 movie. Please read the story in advance (in English or in Italian). This story, as is often the case for Italian literature, does use the passato remoto, so we'll also look at this grammar topic and how it differs from the passato prossimo and imperfetto past tenses that intermediate students will be more familiar with.
Da leggere: For an Italian version, we suggest this "easy reader" simplified version: https://www.amazon.com/Andreuccio-Perugia-Italian-Easy-Readers/dp/0884360490 (also available from other sources online). Otherwise, for an English translation we suggest The Decameron Penguin Classics paperback edition translated by G. H. McWilliam, or The Decameron translated by Wayne A. Rebhorn in 2014.
