Honor Troupe Submission

California State Thespian Troupes, in alliance with Educational Theatre Association and the International Thespian Society, strive to excel both on and off stage. The California State Thespian Board would like to recognize troupes each year that achieves a high level of excellence by offering the California State Thespian Honor Troupe status.

This achievement is meant for those Troupe Directors that do exemplary work in their troupes, in their community, and on the state and national levels. The application process includes the submission of an electronic portfolio about the positive impact the troupe is making. Applications can be submitted beginning in December of each year. The achievements documented should represent work done during the 12 months prior. (i.e. the calendar year January to December)

In order to accept an award, it is required that the troupe be in attendance at the California State Thespian Conference. An honored Troupe’s Director may apply every five years.

What does the Troupe Director receive if selected?

A letter to the honored Troupe and Troupe Director’s superintendent and school site administrator
A plaque presented on stage at California State Thespian Conference
Recognition on the California State Thespian Website

Highlight how your Troupe has grown from the previous year. By how many members? To what percentage? What made this happen? What tactics did you use? How were your students, and student leaders involved in making this happen?

Troupe at State Conference*

List your student accomplishments at state festival: Did you perform as a troupe on main stage (Play Marathon/Virtual Play Fest, Scenefest). Did you have any students on main stage (i.e. Opening/Closing, Best of Fest, PlayWorks). Any students direct a piece that performed on main stage, or have a student position on Tech Crew? How did you students perform in their Thespys? Did more than 50% earn Superior or some other quantifiable achievement? Did any students earn awards or scholarships? Tell us about how their preparation, determination, led to a successful conference experience. Highlight your troupe's achievements.

Thespian Leadership*

Please list any and all achievements surrounding Thespian Leadership. Did you and your students attend one of the Leadership Conferences? What did they take out of it? Do you have students on the State Board? Are you on the State as a Troupe Director? Are you or your students serving at the national level with EdTA? How is leadership being demonstrated by your Thespians at your school?

Troupe Community Service*

Please list any and all contributions to your local community? Did you have a troupe wide TIOS activity/awareness campaign? BC/EFA Campaign? TOTS-EAT? Tell us about them and what you accomplished. How about any advocacy work at the State or National Capitol? How did your troupe serve the community?

The Troupe Director may include any other documented material which might allow the judging committee to consider the Troupe’s application.
