The Red Poppy Festival is a zero-waste event, which means we have a goal of diverting 90% or more of the waste generated at the event by 2021. Volunteers like you are needed at our eco-stations where recycling, composting, and landfill materials are collected. You will help direct festival goers items into the correct collection bin and you will learn about the positive effects of diverting waste for resuse and recycling. Don't worry, no experience is needed, you won't get dirty and you'll get a FREE Red Poppy Festival shirt! Please watch the short video at the bottom of this form to orient you to the program. Multiple volunteers are needed per shift. (Please make sure you go to the bottom of this form to complete and submit.)
Thank you so very much for signing up to be a part of the Red Poppy Festival Zero Waste Team! The Red Poppy Festival kicks off this Friday, April 27 at 6 p.m.! We are expecting great weather and there will be awesome music, food and fun! Please think about wearing a hat and sunscreen and bringing a water bottle to stay hydrated so that you can stay and enjoy the festival!
If you are volunteering on Saturday, you may want to take the shuttle which will be leaving from First Baptist Church (1333 W. University Ave.) beginning at 9 a.m. through midnight. It will drop you off in the festival at 9th and Main Streets. There will be many streets closed, especially during the parade Saturday till about noon. The shuttle only runs on Saturday. On Friday and Sunday, you can park on streets near the event, as long as there aren’t “no parking” signs. Also, the Williamson County parking garage is a good place to park. You can find out more details about parking and street closures here: https://poppy.georgetown.org/parking/
Once you get to the festival site, please check in at the Zero Waste tent, located near the main food court on Main Street, halfway between 7th and 6th Streets near the Celebrate Georgetown Stage. You will get a coupon to redeem for your FREE festival shirt and some other goodies!
