The Big-Little relationship, commonly a part of fraternity and sorority culture on college campuses, creates a family lineage that can be carried on every year strengthening the bonds individual members have with each other and the chapter overall. Each year, we add new members to the family line creating "Grand Big", "Great-Grand Bigs" and so on. Family trees can expand and continue for many generations!
Little - An Aleph-in-Training(AIT)/Member-in-Training(MIT) who is learning about AZA and BBG during their new-member experience.
Big - An older member assigned to an AIT or MIT within their first few weeks of membership to mentor and "show them the ropes" of BBYO.
Through our Big-Little Experience, each new member will be paired with an older member from their chapter who will become a role model and can act as the new member’s personal guide to the organization. A Big is an older or more experienced member that dedicates their time to be a new member's mentor and guide them through the life-changing experience of BBYO.
The Big/Little Chairs have created a framework to launch and support these relationships throughout the year. Bigs will be expected to communicate with their Littles on a weekly basis, ensure that their Littles have transportation to a program, and meet outside of program hours. The Big-Little Chairs will be providing support to all Bigs in implementing the Big-Little Traditions.
Applicants will be notified of their acceptance as a Big when they are paired with a Little. Applications are accepted on a continual basis and pairings will happen throughout the year as each new member joins.
