Murphy- IB:
Murphy High School is now conducting its annual selection of students for the Pre-IB Program, an academic program designed to meet the needs of the able and dedicated student.
Selection for participation in the Pre-IB Program is done on a competitive basis and admission will be limited to 60 qualified students.
Requirements for Participation:
-Have at least a 3.5 GPA the first semester of the eighth grade.
-Have benchmarked level 4 on ACT ASPIRE standardized achievement test or an equivalent test.
-Preferably completed Algebra I.
-Five teacher recommendation letters will be sent to current teachers (English, History, Math, Science, and one elective) by the Academy Specialist.
-Preferably have completed one year of foreign language (French, Spanish, German, Chinese). If not, student will take Language I first semester of the freshmen year and Language II second semester of the freshman year.
Special Note: Admission to the Pre-IB/IB Program is done without regard to zoned school boundaries. Students admitted into the program are granted an automatic transfer to Murphy High School and are eligible to play sports.
Statement of Intent- Applicant:
I understand that admission to the Pre-IB Program is competitive and is limited to 60 qualified students in Grade 9. Pre-IB is a two-year program of studies including composition and literature, mathematics, science, social studies, and foreign language taken in the ninth and tenth grades. I also understand that the state requirements in physical education, and health must be completed and that admission to the IB Program for a diploma depends upon successful completion of the preliminary course sequence and is not automatic.
I further understand that candidates are admitted to the IB Program only in the eleventh grade. I understand that the full four-year program requires an extended essay as well as a course entitled " The Theory of Knowledge" and that I must be involved in cultural, action, and service activities.
To be eligible for consideration, I must:
