ROLE OF MENTORS
- Provide creative and technical guidance, and ad hoc support for game design students enrolled in the G4C Student Challenge program in NYC
- Share your game design experiences, hacks and pro tips
- Help students develop a design thinking mindset and increase their technical ability
- Supplement the program curriculum through a combination of lecture, storytelling, hands-on support, critique and Q&A. (NOTE: Mentors are not responsible for teaching or implementing Mouse curriculum)
COMMITMENTS:
- Must commit to a minimum of one, 60-minute classroom visit from Jan-June 2018
- Maintain in contact with G4C during the mentorship period and respond to all scheduling emails in a timely manner
- Must check-in (by phone or email) to debrief G4C on the visit and provide feedback on the mentor component of the program
- (Optional) Flexibility to (a) return to classroom for a second scheduled visit or (b) visit more than one classroom
- (Optional) Attend G4C Student Challenge events such as game jams or the end-of-program Awards Ceremony in June
REQUIREMENTS
- Live/work in NYC area
- Ability to commute to assigned school for in-class support (via car or public transportation)
- Mentors may be from any profession or background that employs digital design. Industries such as gaming, technology, digital media/arts, etc.
- Must have experience or be interested in working with students grades 6-12

ABOUT THE G4C STUDENT CHALLENGE:
The G4C Student Challenge is a digital game design competition that invites middle and high school students to create original games about three real-world themes: Kindness & Empathy, News Literacy, Wildlife Conservation. The 2017-2018 program is running in NYC, LA, Detroit, Atlanta and Pittsburgh public schools. Challenge winners win prizes such as games, technology, mentorship, experiential prizes and more! An awards ceremony and exhibition of student games will be hosted in each city at the end of the program.
