The scientific content within the thesis is subject to the approval of the student's biology track advisor and the UPBM Faculty Committee.
To qualify for candidacy, students must have developed a novel body of work from research data gathered through independent research, internships, and positions internal and external to URochester, as long as a UR Teaching Faculty member agrees to oversee the thesis writing and defense. In addition, all Honors in Research candidates must have completed a minimum of 2 semesters of research.
The writing of the senior thesis must be derived from the data of research projects that are hypothesis-driven and non-clinical in nature (data not generated from patient studies.) The only exception to this rule are Clinical & Translational Sciences majors, who are permitted to use clinical data within their thesis.
IMPORTANT: A copy of your thesis will need to be distributed to both your committee members and the UPBM office at least one week in advance of the date of the defense. Therefore, your committee will need time to prepare their evaluation. If the committee needs more time to prepare an assessment, please note that the defense is at risk of cancellation.
