Policy:
Bridges of Colorado understands that host home providers may at times need to leave the consumer in the care of a designated backup residential staff (BURS) for a limited amount of time. It is Bridges policy to ensure that Host Home Providers as well as anyone the have functioning as a backup residential support understand what is expected of them in regards to caring for Bridges consumers.
Procedure:
Contracted Host Home Provider are allowed to leave the consumer with backup residential support for short periods of time granted that the following guidelines are observed:
- Backup residential support are NEVER to administer medications to the consumer.
- Backup residential support should call 911 IMMEDIATELY in any emergency situation.
- Backup residential support should never attempt to administer CPR, First Aid or other life saving measures without being properly trained or directed to do so by 911 operators.
- Backup residential support MUST have a background check conducted through Bridges HR department PRIOR to providing care for the consumer. (Host Home Provider should ensure this has been done prior to allowing the backup residential staff to care for the consumer)
- Backup residential support MUST have completed consumer specific training with Bridges Service Coordinator and/or Director prior to providing care for the consumer. (Host Home Provider should ensure this has been done prior to allowing the backup residential staff to care of consumer)
- HHP and Backup Residential support must have read and acknowledged the Bridges Backup Residential support policy PRIOR to providing care for the consumer.
