As part of our mission to connect creatives through diverse and experiential endeavors, Light Grey Art Lab is proud to coordinate our Light Grey Norway Residency 2018. This year's creative residency will take place on June 6th-11th, 2018 and June 13th- 18th, 2018 in the Hardangerfjord region, Norway. We have rented a secluded country home as the home-base of our exploratory journey, where we will share concepts, conversations and experiences with a group of creatives from around the world.
We are accepting applications for our 2018 Residency program and are looking forward to meeting all applicants over the next few months as we prepare for next year's adventure.
TO APPLY: Please submit your details below by February 1st, 2018. We will be reviewing applications as they are submitted and will respond within several weeks of receiving your application. We are looking forward to hearing from you!
SPECIFICS:
We are looking for individuals that are interested in helping contribute to an atmosphere of creative cameraderie and people that are willing to be open to adventure, creating on-location and collaborating with others in real time. As part of our mission for collaborative learning, each artist in residence will be asked to submit a mini-thesis proposal that they will be working on prior to the Norway Residnecy. During the program, artists will be contributing a 1 hour interactive workshop, discussion, or presentation on their experience, reflections, observations, and progress throughout the year. In the application, please provide us with your concept (or concepts) for your exploration, and what you'd like to emphasize and we look forward to hearing more about your ideas!
THE SELECTION PROCESS:
We will be selecting the final group by February 15th, 2018. Interviews and communication with prospective artists-in-residence will be conducted between January 1st (as submissions are still arriving) through February 10th, and accepted artists-in-residence will be asked to confirm a portion of their registration payment within two weeks of acceptance to reserve their position. A formal email will be sent out to all applicants with the status of their application on or before February 15th and an online announcement to the public with follow shortly after.
Please be thorough when submitting the details of your application as the team uses it to better understand what an applicant can bring to the group experience. Skype interviews may be scheduled with artists who may want to discuss more details than the form allows, however, it is not a necessary part of the application process. We do ask that each applicant pays special attention to the "mini-thesis proposal" and provide their best concepts for what they would like to be working on. The work will be celebrated in an exhibition in the Light Grey Art Lab gallery in Minneapolis after the completion of the residency in summer 2018.
OTHER REMINDERS:
***Please note that the residency will contain a lot of hiking, walking, and moving about in all types of weather. The core of our residency will be happening outdoors, so please take that into consideration when applying for a spot!
Thanks again and please send us an email if you have any questions about the residency or accompanying programming.
Sincerely,
Lindsay Nohl, Founder Light Grey Art Lab
