SSMU Gendered and Sexualized Violence Policy Anonymous Feedback Form
SSMU has recently hired three individuals to develop an internal sexual violence policy for the student union. Our team will conduct research and support the writing of a report that will include a draft of a SSMU Gendered and Sexualized Violence Policy (GSVP), an archive of the anti-sexual violence work that has happened on McGill’s campus to date and a series of recommendations for the union to implement to better support its members and its ability to prevent and respond adequately to sexual violence on campus. This will ultimately enable SSMU to become a leader within Canadian student unions in responding to campus sexual violence.
The SSMU Sexual Violence Policy Coordinator, Caitlin Salvino, and two advisors Bee Khaleeli and Priya Dubé will be independently leading this project, conducting consultation and ultimately developing the draft. To us, consultation is central. To develop a holistic, intersectional and survivor-centric SSMU policy, we believe it is essential to reach out to the various stakeholders who have been involved at the grassroots level and survivors. We will be holding numerous individual, general and closed consultation sessions over the next few months. This forms is one component of our consultation. We acknowledge that for many, they would feel more comfortable providing online and/or anonymous feedback. This form seeks to provide the ability for all members of the McGill community to have the ability to access the coordinator and advisors to provide feedback on the development of the SSMU GSVP.
All of the questions are anonymous and optional. The feedback will be anonymously sent directly to the GSVP Project Coordinator and will not be accessible by any other SSMU staff or executives.
We genuinely appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback to support us as we develop this important policy. If you need support while writing feedback or after completing the form, peer support is available at SACOMSS who can be accessed through this site: http://www.sacomss.org/wp/ or you can contact the coordinator at svpolicycoord@ssmu.ca who will be able to connect you with more resources.
We are always available to meet and hear feedback/concerns in person. If you would like to arrange a meeting (on or off campus) please contact Caitlin Salvino at svpolicycoord@ssmu.ca
Do you have any comments/feedback on how the development or consultation on the SSMU GSVP has been conducted so far?
Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for how the consultation should be conducted going forward?
Is there anything you would like to specifically see in the GSVP? Any feedback or thoughts on what should and shouldn't be included?
The coordinators are seeking to create a holistic policy that extends beyond accountability mechanisms to include sexual violence prevention and support. This includes working with the existing stakeholders who are already doing this work and determining ways SSMU can better support them. Given this approach, do you have any thoughts or suggestions for ways SSMU can incorporate prevention and support into the GSVP framework?
A central focus of the GSVP is intersectionality, and acknowledging as well as sensitively responding to the experiences of students with marginalized identities. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions on ways the GSVP can meaningfully include an intersectional approach in the development and final draft of the policy?
Do you have any other final thoughts or feedback on the GSVP or for the Coordinators/Advisors?
If you would like for the coordinators to follow-up with you on your feedback, please include in the text below your name and contact information. *Please note that this is intended to be an anonymous form and any identifying information is not required*
Once again, thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback. If you would like to reach the GSVP Coordinator at any point to provide more feedback, be added to the stakeholder mailing list or to schedule a meeting please contact Caitlin Salvino at svpolicycoord@ssmu.ca.
