Through its Foundation, FSPA is proud to offer up to 15 Maassen Scholarships to help students attend the spring convention. The FSPA board renamed the awards this year in honor of longtime adviser and board member Jill Maassen's years of service and leadership to the organization.
Scholarships are both need- and merit-based. Recipients must be first-time convention attendees.
Student selected for the scholarship will have their $90 convention registration waived. Maassen Scholarship recipients must agree to devote two hours of volunteer time during convention.
The awards are selected by a committee of FSPA staff and educators. FSPA will notify students and advisers ASAP to assist in convention planning.
Students must have been on an FSPA-member staff for at least one year.
Students must have a 3.0 minimum grade point average.
Only one student per publication may apply
Recipents must be first-time convention attendees.
APPLICATIONS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY:
A letter of nomination from the student’s adviser recommends the student. If there is clear financial need, be sure to explain it in the letter. See below for space for adviser to input his/her letter of recommendation and nomination.
An essay from the nominated student addressing: What my scholastic journalism experience means to me (should not exceed 250 words). See below for space for the student to enter his/her essay.
We strongly urge you to prepare the student essay and nomination letter in advance so you can cut and paste it into this form. This form cannot be partially completed and saved for further revsisions.
