The participating agency operating the summer program at any SFUSD school agrees to the following policies in accordance with the SFUSD-sponsored Seamless Summer meal program rules and regulations:
- Serve meals to all youth 18 years of age and under. One meal per child per meal period.
- All sites receiving summer meals must be open sites, where community youth can participate and receive free summer meals on a first-come-first-serve basis.
- Provide adequate line supervision during the meal service time to make sure each meal is accurately accounted for. Assist with reinforcing to students that they must take the minimum required meal components to count as a reimbursable meal.
- Serve meals during the approved mealtime.
- No food may be taken off campus, unless meals are intended for field trips. All meals must be consumed in the dining space.
- Comply with civil rights laws and regulations: The USDA prohibits discrimination against its customers, employees, and applicants for employment on the bases of race, color, national origin, age, disability, sex, gender identity, religion, reprisal, and where applicable, political beliefs, marital status, familial or parental status, sexual orientation, or all or part of an individual's income is derieved from any public assistance program, or protected genetic informaiton in employment or in any program or activity conducted or funded by the Department.
- Submit weekly orders according to the Ordering Deadline Schedule. Student Nutrition Services (SNS) reserves the right to make order adjustments should excess leftovers be observed.
- Report program closures or dates when meals will not be served, and when bag lunches are needed for field trips, at least one week in advance.
- Sites with excessive leftovers will be tracked by SNS and billed monthly. Breakfast: $1.50, Lunch: $3.00, Snack: $0.80
- SNS will conduct site reviews at least once during the session, and may be announced or unannounced. Findings and feedback will be provided to teh site staff, violations, if any, shall be corrected and addressed immediately. SNS may need to conduct a follow-up visit.
- Make corrective actions and troubleshoot issues as recommended by SFUSD in a timely manner to maintain compliance with USDA regulations. SNS personnel (Area Supervisor and Ordering Clerks) will be assigned to designated schools and be available to provide assistance.
- Site staff or students must not be allowed to enter the kitchen or use the equipment without a resal estate permit or prior approval. During the summer sesion, SNS staff have the priority for using the equipment to serve summer meals, regardless of issuance of other kitchen permits.
- Site coordinators or a staff member from each agency are required to attend the mandatory SFUSD Summer Meal Orientation. A separate invitation will be sent after the approval of the application. Failure to attend the required orientation will result in SNS denying the application. It is the responsibility of the staff who attends the training to train the agency's program staff on the rules and regulations fo teh meal program. Additional training, technical assistance needs, or questions can be directed to SNS.
Additional requirements for sites distributing meals without SNS staffing:
- Safely store any program food and supplies. All food items must be refrigerated until ready to serve.
- Enforce hand washing requirements of staff and children to ensure food safety.
- Ensure program staff will be on site to receive food delivery. Site is responsible for checking all components against the invoice/delivery receipt to ensure everything has been delivered and is good quality. If any problems occur, sites are responsible for calling SNS immediately.
- Maintain accurate daily meal count forms at the correct point of service. Youth taking a meal should be tallied one at a time on appropriate form every time a meal is served.
- Paperwork (Meal Production Records and Tally Sheet) must be completed daily, compiled, and submitted to SNS on a weekly basis according to schedule.
- Leftover food must be disposed of at the end of the day due to food safety concerns. They must not be saved for consumption at a later time.
Complying with this agreement ensures that as many youth as possible can receive wholesome meals and ensures that all sites have the necessary materials and training to run a successful program. Failure to comply with the terms indicated abov or any of hte requirements of this program jeopardizes SFUSD's ability to provide meals to children in our community. Sites that are found to be non-compliant with USDA/SFUSD regulations may be removed from the Summer Food Program. Siginging below indicates that you have read, reviewed, understand, and agree to the requirements and take responsbility for this program at your site.
