Central Ohio USBC Scholarship Application

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The Central Ohio United States Bowling Congress (CO-USBC) awards two scholarships per year, one each to a male and a female, that will each be worth a total of $2,500 over four years. The first year the recipients will receive $1,000. The scholarship is automatically renewable in the amount of $500 per year for a maximum of three (3) additional years, provided all requirements are met. All high school seniors who are a member of a league certified through the Central Ohio United States Bowling Congress (CO-USBC) are eligible.

Information submitted to the scholarship committee will be treated as “confidential”.

Each applicant will need to submit the following documentation in addition to completing this application:

1) One letter of endorsement from a responsible person who can confirm the applicant's bowling achievements.

2) One letter of recommendation from the principal/guidance counselor.

3) The applicant’s official transcript of high school credits.

4) A record of the standardized test scores (including ACT/SAT).

Applications and supporting documentation for the scholarship must be received on or before March 15.

All questions are to be answered completely by the applicant. Attach any files necessary to complete your answers for each field.

1. List all school activities in which you were involved (include offices held).*

3. Give a history of your bowling career (include number of years bowled, number of leagues participated in, average, awards, personal high game and series, offices held, youth leadership, coaching, bowling education, and any other pertinent information).*

As an applicant, you will be interviewed and a final selection will be made by the Central Ohio USBC Scholarship Committee. You will be notified of the decision of the Central Ohio USBC board after its April board meeting.

This scholarship will be considered null and void if you are to receive full ride funding from another organization.

Policies and Procedures

Any high school senior who is a member of a league certified through the Central Ohio United States Bowling Congress (CO-USBC) is eligible.

Policies

1. The scholarship shall be established to encourage academic achievement and educational advancement and to further the interest in the game of American Tenpin through certified bowling competition.

2. Any scholarship awarded will be sent directly to their USBC SMART account.

3. All scholarships shall be for a stated amount and have an established time limit for utilization by the recipient. That deadline will be May 31st of the year following the date that the scholarship is awarded. The student must be enrolled as a full or part-time student (minimum of 5 credit hours) to receive scholarship funds. Any funds unused after the deadline will remain in the Laura J. Steele and Terry Theis Scholarship Fund. Such funds shall no longer be available to the student.

4. Requests for exceptions must be received in writing, and approval must be in writing from the COUSBC.

Procedures To Apply

5. Applications shall be distributed to each CO-USBC Youth Coordinator and High School Coach annually. Paper copies of the application may be obtained from the CO-USBC office or the website www.bowlcentralohio.org.

6. Deadline for submitting applications shall be March 15th each year.
