  • Dear Contestant,

    Welcome to the 2019 Miss Ozark Rodeo Association Pageant. In this form you will find the application and rules and regulations for the pageant. We will be sending out a time schedule as soon as we know how many girls will be in the pageant. We will be judging the pageant on your horsemanship ability, appearance and personality, public speaking, and interview.

    The lucky lady who wins the title will reign over the rodeos for the 2019 season and will help with the 2020 queen pageant.

    Judges will not be any ORA active members, but will be knowledgeable in rodeo queen pageants. There will four age divisions in the queen pageant. Sweetheart is for ages 4-8, Jr Miss 9-13, Teen is ages 14-17, and Miss is for ages 18-25. You must submit a copy of your birth certificate and we will base your age as of January 1, 2019.

    The pageant will be held on October 20, 2018 in St. Robert, Mo.

     

    Entry Fee:

    Miss/Teen/Jr Miss Contestants: $60 and $50 required ad page fee

    Sweetheart Contestants: $45

    Deadline: September 1, 2018

    September 15, 2018 absolute last day to enter and add $15 late fee to entry

  • Rules of Competition

  • 1. Single, have never been married or pregnant.
    2. Miss contestants must be a Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Illinois, Arkansas, or Oklahoma resident. Teen, Jr, and Sweetheart contestants must be a Missouri resident. 
    3. Miss contestants must be enrolled in school or work in the state of Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Illinois, Arkansas, or Oklahoma.Teen, Jr, and Sweetheart contestants must be enrolled in school in the state of Missouri.
    4. Contestants must have not been convicted of a felony.
    5. The Miss ORA Queen Pageant reserves the right to refuse any entry.
    6. Queen Coordinator and Board of Directors decisions are final.
    7. Queens will wear their crown and banner at all rodeos.
    8. Queens will be expected to carry the flags in the grand entry at rodeos. You must be at the gate 15 minutes before the grand entry starts.
    9. Queens will be expected to help sell raffle tickets during the rodeos, help sell advertising for the finals program book, put up banners at rodeos if need be, and to meet with sponsors in the town where they are held.
    10. Queens will always be dressed in western attire when they have on the crown and banner. No short sleeves or shorts. ORA dress code will be in effect when wearing crown and banner.
    11. Queens will make sure they put their hats on so they will not come off while doing a queens run or carrying the flags. If you need to, use a stampede string, bobbie pins, or tape. Make sure it stays on. If your hat comes off in the arena, you will have to pay the fine according to the ORA Rule Book.
    12. Queens will not let other people where your crown or banner at any time. Crowns and banners are expected to remain in good shape throughout your entire reign. If for any reason your crown and banner get ruined throughout the year, you are responsible for replacing it.
    13. Queens will not chew gum while in crown and banner or during grand entry.
    14. Miss/Teen queens are expected to attend at least one night of 75% of the rodeos and Jr Miss contestants are expected to attend 50% of the rodeos except for unexpected circumstances. (i.e. death, illness, school related event, etc.) You must get your attendance approved from a rodeo with the Coordinator the Monday before the rodeo.
    15. Queens must attend finals and the awards banquet.
    16. If for any reason the queen cannot fulfill her duties, the first runner up will take over as queen and all awards must be returned.

  • Phases of Competition

  • HORSEMANSHIP(Miss, Teen, and Jr Miss only, optional for Sweetheart): Horsemanship will include a set pattern. The horsemanship pattern will be available as soon as your application is received. Following the pattern, you will dismount and speak with the judges in the arena for a horsemanship interview. After speaking with the judges, you will perform a queens run and flag presentation run. Jr Miss and Teen contestants will be riding their own horse. **Miss contestants ONLY we will be drawing horses for horsemanship and you will ride Boll Weevil Livestock Horses** 

    PERSONAL INTERVIEW(Miss, Teen, and Jr Miss only, optional for Sweetheart): Each contestant will have a timed private interview with the panel of judges. Contestants will be asked questions off of their application as well as rodeo and horse knowledge. Miss interview will be 7 minutes long, Teen and Jr Miss interview will be 5 minutes long. 

    PUBLIC SPEAKING(Miss Division only): Each contestant will be asked to prepare and deliver a speech in front of an audience and judges. Miss speech will be 1-2 minutes long. The topic is "State" and will be written about your home state. 

    IMPROMPTU QUESTIONS: Each contestant will be asked two impromptu questions. One will be personality and the other from the ORA Rulebook. 

    PHOTOGENIC: Contestant must submit a 5x7 photograph to be judged. Head and shoulder only. Must be vertical. This picture will also be featured in the program book. Western attire only.

    APPEARANCE: Contestants will be modeling different outfits during this portion of competition that are outlined in your contestant email for the fashion show.

    WRITTEN TEST (Miss Division Only): The test will be over rodeo knowledge, horse knowledge, and the Ozark Rodeo Association Rulebook. 

    PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD: The people's choice award competition will be based off of "likes" on the posted photo on the ORA Queen Pageant Facebook page. Voting will be announced after the deadline for applications. This award WILL NOT count towards your final score. (Two winners will be selected. One in sweetheart division and one from the Miss, Teen, and Jr Miss divisions)

    MOST ADS SOLD AWARD(Miss, Teen, and Jr Miss only): Each contestant will be required to sell a half page sponsorship. After that the rest of the ads sold will be counted towards the most ads sold award. The contestant who sells the most ads by dollar amount will receive the award. This award WILL NOT count towards your final score.

  • I understand that if I win the title of Miss/Teen/Jr Miss ORA I will be the Ozark Rodeo Association’s official representative and responsible to present the Sport of Rodeo in its true light to the general public.

    I will strive to represent unexcelled sportsmanship, high moral and ethical character and humane treatment of animals.

    I understand that the Miss ORA Pageant is not a beauty competition; rather, it is a competition which recognizes a number of attributes; sportsmanship, horsemanship, personality, public speaking, and appearance. Therefore, it is my responsibility, as Miss ORA’s official rodeo representative, to act, speak, and dress according to the esteem my title deserves, any time I am in the public eye.

    Riding and horsemanship skills are key to the promotion of the Sport of Rodeo. Therefore I will strive to improve my riding and horsemanship skills in order to better promote the Sport of Rodeo.

    If I become Miss/Teen/Jr Miss ORA, I will:
    • Wear my Miss/Teen/Jr Miss ORA banner and crown at any time I am acting in the capacity of Miss/Teen/Jr Miss ORA
    • Avail myself of all opportunities to appear as Miss/Teen/Jr Miss ORA to the public and to be prepared for photographs and interview opportunities to promote the Sport of Rodeo
    • Attend specific rodeos as requested by the Director
    • I agree and understand that if I win the title, I will execute and contract with the pageant.
    • I agree and understand that I must submit this agreement with my entry form

    Uphold the title of Miss/Teen/Jr Miss ORA, encourage others to participate in future pageants and assist in the provisions of my reign, act as hostess to contestants in future pageants and assists in the promotion and conduct of the pageant in every way.

    I understand that during official Miss/Teen/Jr Miss ORA activities, an official chaperone will be designated for me and that I am not responsible to provide my own.

    I also understand and agree that my official appearances must be approved by the director of Miss/Teen/Jr Miss ORA and agree to maintain close contact with the director to accomplish this.

    I agree that during the term from my entry as a contestant and through my reign as Miss/Teen/Jr Miss ORA, I shall remain unmarried and shall observe high standard of moral and ethical behavior befitting my title and setting a good example to the public, to future competitors, and the Miss ORA Pageant.

    I have carefully read the aforementioned statement and fully agree to abide by the terms therein. I also agree that I have read and understand the Miss ORA rule book and agree to abide by these rules during the official Miss ORA Pageant Activities.

     

  • Waiver of Liability

  • I hereby agree to release the Ozark Rodeo Association and the Miss Ozark Rodeo Association Queen Pageant, the directors and secretary, and anybody that has facilities that are being used throughout the pageant and all their people from any accident claims. I agree to take full responsibility for any accidents that may occur. I also agree that I have read the rules and regulations of the Miss Sweetheart ORA, Miss Teen ORA, and Miss ORA Pageant and I agree to abide by them. If I should win Miss Sweetheart ORA, Miss Teen ORA, or Miss ORA, I agree to fulfill my obligations as defined in the rules.

  • Sportsmanship Agreement

  • I do hereby agree that sportsmanship and a positive attitude are important qualities of Miss ORA and Miss Teen ORA. I further agree that by entering this pageant I am asking for the opinion of the selected panel of judges on whether they feel I am the contestant most ready to serve the capacity of Miss ORA or Miss Teen ORA.

    Therefore, whether I win or do not win this year’s title, I agree to conduct myself with grace and class, accepting the judge’s decision as final.

    I further agree to not show publicly any animosity or discouragement regarding the pageant operation or outcome nor question the judge’s opinion, the pageant volunteers, administration of the pageant, nor trouble the sponsors not any other contestants or their entourage before, during, or after this year’s pageant.

    Failure to adhere to this agreement may constitute in disqualification and a ban from future entry into any division of the pageant.

    This parameter of sportsmanship applies to me, my immediate family, and any additional friends, family, or acquaintances that come in contact with the pageant.

    A signature of agreement is a prerequisite for entering the Miss ORA Pageants. It is due prior to the official start of the pageant.

    This agreement must be signed by both the contestant and a parent regardless of age.

  • We ask that you provide these sizes incase sponsors provide clothing for you to wear during our fashion show at the pageant.

  • Miss Rodeo USA

    **Miss contestants only**
  • The winner of Miss ORA 2019 will have the opportunity to compete for Miss Rodeo USA in January 2020. This will give you an entire year to work with the director and board to prepare. This is completely optional and you do not have to go if you do not want to. This will also not determine if you win our pageant or not. We just wanted to give you girls an opportunity to go on to a national level pageant. If you are interested and you win, we will discuss fundraising opportunities to raise money for you to be able to go. The Ozark Rodeo Association Pageant will be there to support you and guide you, however we will not pay your way in full. We have a lot of fundraising opportunities throughout the year to raise the money.
