Petition to
Rule Out Radon in Schools and Child Care Environments
Given that
1. Indoor exposure to high levels of radon, a radioactive gas, is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers.
2. Children and staff may be exposed to elevated levels of radon while in schools and child care facilities (between 1500 and 2500 hours per year).
3. It is easy and inexpensive to determine levels of radon.
We call on governments across Canada to ensure children and staff in schools and child care environments are protected from this well-known and preventable cancer risk.
