  • Faculty Sponsor Endorsement

Students are required to have a faculty sponsor endorse the project. This endorsement expresses the faculty member's assessment of the project's feasibility and merit, the student’s ability to complete the project, the faculty member's contribution to the project's success, and the relevance of the project to the student's academic program.

It is the student's responsibility to request the faculty endorsement in order to complete the application for funding.

The endorsement should be completed online. Please send the following link to your faculty sponsor: https://form.jotform.com/80533947367163.

  • Project Information

  • Project Proposal

Please complete the following sections using these guidelines.

    1. Abstract of project:
Include an abstract of the project (should be no more than 300 words).

    2. Description of the project:
Provide a description (maximum equivalent of 3 double-spaced pages) of the project including objectives and procedures. You should also provide a brief description of how your project will enrich DePauw's intellectual community. Students should also include a description of the role your faculty sponsor will play in this project, and how he or she will support your research efforts.

    3. Humanities, Social Sciences, or Sciences Component:
Please articulate the humanities, social sciences, or sciences component of this work or project. If your project falls into multiple areas, you must submit separate applications to the individual committees outlining the relevant aspects of the project to that particular fund. For example, if your project is an interdisciplinary social science and science project, you must submit an application for funding to the social science committee outlining the social science aspects, while also submitting an application to the science committee outlining the science aspects.

    4. Project Timeline:
Indicate the approximate timeline of the project including when the requested funds will be needed and when they will be spent.

    5. Budget for project expenses:
Include a budget for the project expenses (materials, housing, meals, transportation). Please note meal expenses should not exceed the $51 per day maximum. As you prepare your budget, please prioritize what you want and need funded, indicated by "essential" or "ideal".

    Please Note:

We regularly receive more proposals than we can fund. We try to maximize the number of proposals we support, which typically amounts to up to $4,000 per award. Please keep this in mind as you submit your proposal and project budgets. Indicating which aspects are essential vs. ideal allows the committee to be as informed as possible when making decisions to support as many projects as possible.

  • Protection of Human and Animal Subjects

Federal regulations require that all procedures involving the use of humans or animals be approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) or the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) prior to initiation of the project.

Students should consult with their faculty sponsors about the project's design in order to comply with these standards. Because the review process can sometimes require modification to the proposals, it is important to begin this process early.
