June 4-8 In Tune with Nature
Research continues to point to the many benefits of outdoor play experiences for children by its calming effects, improving academic learning by allowing for better concentration and deeper connections, and opportunities for creative and cooperative social play. During this camp week, we will spend much time outdoors in nature. We will experiment with shadow, light, color and water. We will design habitats for some of the many creatures that might be living under our logs and rocks, we will move and make music as we listen to some of the natural sounds of our surroundings. It will be exciting to get “in tune” with ourselves and our world. And…….. if it rains, we will need our boots and rain gear for some wonderful explorations!
June 11-15 Build!
When children build, they make many new discoveries and connections. The challenges of creating things encourage development in mathematical and scientific reasoning. Language skills are enhanced as children love to share the stories of what is taking place in their construction. During this week, the children will be going to the “Lego Lot,” the “Block Spot,” “Creation Station,” and “Bins and Boxes.” The children will have an opportunity to go outside each day.
