During "off"-project weeks, this time for will be used for training and preparation. During “on”-project weeks, this time will be used “in the field” and editing existing video.
2 • Will I be compensated for my involvement?
We are not a “gig” church - Ultimately, the answer to this question is NO. Discovery does not view our weekend services as “gigs” for technical or musical participants. Though we value and celebrate the level of skill and ability brought by ALL members of our team, we also understand the responsibility that we each have to “bring our gifts into the storehouse” (Malachi 3:10), offering our worship as a free gift to the LORD. This decision eliminates any possible distraction or ulterior motive to your investment in our team. It means, if you’re here, you WANT to be here!
3 • How often will I be asked to serve?
Ultimately, your frequency of service is entirely YOUR decision. We hope that you will feel fulfilled in your service on our team and desire to commit regularly. However, we understand the need to balance work, family, church, and rest, and want to support you in maintaining that balance. So, if you are only able to serve once a month, let us know and we will respect your boundaries. If your desire to serve falls beyond our available positions, we will do our best to accomodate.
4 • What is the training process?
The training process varies, depending on which team you’ll be serving and what level of commitment you’ll be making. Our Technical Arts Team members learn “on the job” during our weekend services, acting as “shadows” for a few weeks before handling a role. Our Music Arts Team functions similarly, though we focus all “shadow” time during our mid-week rehearsals. No matter the team, we are desirous to regularly increase the level of excellence of EACH individual and provide ongoing outlets for growth for those who seek to hone their skills further. And for all of our teams, we hope to foster a desire for personal growth and development, leaning on each person to continually seek ways to develop their skills (books, training videos, workshops, etc.).
5 • What level of experience is necessary to be involved in the team?
Technical Arts Team – We welcome a spectrum of experience levels on our Technical Arts Team. If you have a willing heart and a working set of hands, we will be happy to put you to work!
Music Arts Team – Our Music Arts Team is comprised of singers and musicians. Though classical training in music and theory are not required, basic understanding of song structure, musicality, rhythm & timing, and harmony are important to us. You must be competent to play your instrument at the level of our existing bands and sing in accordance to our current vocalists (these standards are reviewed during our audition process). There is ALWAYS room for growth and we have witnessed many of our team members advance - from basic to intermediate knowledge - during their tenure with the team. For a better understanding of our musical standard, please attend one of our weekend services or watch online.
Creative Video Team – We welcome a spectrum of experience levels on our Creative Video Team, from those who are well-versed in script-writing and storyboarding, to those who are willing to hold a camera. If you’re able, we will teach you!
6 • Is Childcare provided for rehearsals and services?
Childcare is NOT currently provided for our weeknight rehearsals. However, it is important that your children are taken care of, as you serve. Therefore, we DO offer Childcare for our weekend services. Please alert us if you have special childcare needs that are not solved with our weekend provision alone, and may hinder you from service (DC Arts). We want to be sure that we are a PART of helping you and your family thrive, at Discovery!
