Thank you for your interest in applying to become a Waddel Fellow for the 2018-2019 academic year. Please read the following directions carefully.
All applications are due by midnight on April 15, 2018.
The Waddel Fellowship is a vocational discernment project developed through the Presbyterian Student Center at the University of Georgia in cooperation with the congregations of Northeast Georgia Presbytery, students at the University of Georgia, the Presbyterian Campus Ministry at the University of Alabama (Bama UKirk), and Columbia Theological Seminary. The goals of the Waddel Fellowship are to encourage undergraduate students and recently graduated students in the Athens area to explore calls to Christian ministry, to consider the relationship between faith and vocation, and to prepare for various types of leadership in the church. These goals will be achieved by placing students in leadership positions in congregations, building a support network around them that includes both individual attention and community gatherings, assisting participants in visiting seminaries, and holding an annual vocational weekend at Columbia Theological Seminary.
The program is directed by the Campus Minister and the Waddel Fellowship Committee, which is appointed by the Board of Directors of Presbyterian Campus Ministry, Inc.
The cornerstone of this program is the Waddel Fellows (up to 12 per year), who are sent into nearby congregations (or non-profit organization) to work, to lead, and to participate in the life of those congregations. Fellows are asked to commit three hours each week during approximately 25 weeks of the fall and spring semesters (not during breaks, holidays, etc.). Some placements will focus on Sundays, some on Wednesdays, and some on various other times during the week. They would spend approximately 75 hours during the course of the academic year with a congregation. Working with the Fellow and the congregation, the placements will be specialized based on the needs of the congregation and the interests of the students. Each student will receive a $600 stipend from the Waddel Fellowship for their participation ($300 per semester).
If a congregation and a student agree to add hours and payment above and beyond what is required by the Waddel Fellowship, then they are welcome to do so.
If you have any questions, then please email the Campus Minister at campusminister@pscuga.org.
We are looking forward to a great 2018-2019 class for the Waddel Fellowship and we hope to receive your application soon!
