Eligibility for Certification
Applicants are generally notified of their acceptance within a week of the submission and payment, with some exceptions. To be eligible for the official NCVAN certification which is recognized by the National Service Practitioner Certification Academy and the National Organization for Victim Assistance, applicants must have 6 months experience in the field of victim services, must complete the application, must possess a clean criminal background, and must complete the entirety of NCVAN'S week-long certification training.
Exceptions are occasionally made for those who may otherwise wish to attend the training and receive a "training certificate" in lieu of the requirements, if other variables are met. If a participant believes there are circumstances which warrant special consideration, such as taking on a new role for a recognized agency in working primarily with victims of crime, or past direct experience working directly with victims of crime, the participant should send an email (upon submitting the application and payment) to the director of training at training@nc-van.org. The email should include a description of the applicant's circumstances.
