New Skete Volunteer-In-Residence Program
Temporary Program

The Volunteer in Residence Program is temporary and does not establish residency at New Skete. Participants are responsible for maintaining their own permanent residence and should not relinquish housing or change their legal residence based on participation in the program.
Required Preliminary Visit

All prospective Volunteers in Residence are required to make a short preliminary visit to New Skete before being considered for the program. This visit provides an opportunity to experience the community, learn about the program and its daily rhythm, and determine whether it may be a good fit for both the applicant and the community.

Volunteer opportunities related to our dog and puppy programs are limited and do not include handling dogs enrolled in our training program or instruction in becoming a dog trainer. Depending on current needs, volunteer activities may include observing training sessions or assisting with cleaning and other support tasks in areas where dogs are not housed.

Volunteer assignments are not available in New Skete's accounting, information technology, marketing, or administrative offices. These areas are staffed by employees and are not part of the Volunteer in Residence program.
