Process and Timelines for Fibre Arts Applications
In order to ensure a high standard for artworks, the Fibre Art Show is a juried show.
General Information for Fibre Artists:
ArtWalk is open to all artists residing in the Okanagan.
Please submit your application before July 1, 2017.
All entries must be original pieces of artistic merit and will be judged by a committee.
The term fibre art includes wearable art and wall pieces (2D and 3D). Quilted entries must consist of 2 – 3 layers and be quilted either by hand, machine or a combination.
Please list 5 to 10 works for judging. They should be an indication of the type and quality of your work. The jury will consider works that are in-progress.
The jury committee will consider the following criteria when reviewing applications: • originality • innovative use of materials • composition • technical skill • effective imagery • quality of application presentation.
Entries must not have been exhibited at previous ArtWalk shows.
The fee for exhibiting fibre art at ArtWalk 2017 is $5.00 per item exhibited (payable by cheque or e-transfer upon acceptance of works).
Artists may offer their work for sale at ArtWalk. Sales will be handled by the ArtWalk committee with a 10% commission deducted from the sale price. If your entry is not for sale, please indicate 'nfs' on the entry form.
If you are accepted into ArtWalk, the number of pieces exhibited may be limited due to space constraints.
The works listed in your application form allow the jury to review the merits of your work. Recognizing that artists could create new works between the application date and the event, you may exhibit work not listed on your application. If the works brought to ArtWalk to not meet the quality standard on which you were juried in, the Committee reserves the right to remove those works or ask you to replace them.
If accepted to the show, you will have to complete an Artist Exhibition Agreement to submit a final list of works that will be shown, and short artist statements for each of them, by August 15, 2017.
Jurying will be complete and accepted artists will be notified before the end of July.
Artists must be available for set-up at a specified time on Friday, September 8 and for their scheduled time during the event. Artists in the past have found it valuable to stay with their work and interact with visitors during the two day event.
