Eligibility for Certification
To be eligible for the official NCVAN certification, which is recognized by the National Service Practitioner Certification Academy and the National Organization for Victim Assistance, applicants must have 6 months experience in the field of victim services, must complete the application, must possess a clean criminal background, and must complete the entirety of NCVAN'S week-long certification training.
Exceptions are occasionally made for those who may otherwise wish to attend the training and receive a "training certificate" in lieu of the requirements, if other variables are met. If a participant believes there are circumstances which warrant special consideration, such as taking on a new role for a recognized agency in working primarily with victims of crime, or past direct experience working directly with victims of crime, the participant should send an email (upon submitting the application and payment) to the director of training at firstname.lastname@example.org. The email should include a description of the applicant's circumstances.
Fee: The application fee is $200, which includes a 1-year membership (or renewal) to NCVAN. Current individual or agency members receive a $15 discount, for a total of $185. (All meals, travel and hotel are the responsibility of applicant. Information on an early-bird discount hotel rate is available in the confirmation email.)
Payment: Upon submission of the application, applicants are redirected to a secure payment page. Payment is by credit card or by PayPal, to NCVAN's PayPal account. Space is provided to indicate a payee name if an agency or individual other than the applicant pays the fee, to assure credit. If unable to pay by credit card/Paypal, NCVAN will accept a check payment, if NCVAN is notified of essential details. Should technical challenges occur in making the payment, applicants may contact Elizabeth Watson at email@example.com or call (919)831-2857 ext. 4 for assistance.
Cancellations: In occasional exceptions whereby NCVAN is unable to accept an applicant into the Academy, the application fee is refunded. Should an accepted participant become unable to attend the event, credit for the payment can be applied to a future session and certification.
