  • As of Spring 2020, auditions and portfolio review for the admission process at LIHSA require digital submission. In some instances, the applicant may be notified to come in person following their digital submission for a more in-depth review. Please click on the program of choice to learn their specific admission requirements.     The audition is comprised of the video prescreen.  In some cases, you may be asked for a callback for an in-person audition or portfolio review.  *Please complete this ONLY after you have done the Nassau BOCES HS application and supplementary application form.

    Acceptance to the Long Island High School for the Arts is based on a competitive audition and review of student records to ensure success in both the demanding studio work and the challenging academic programs. Students who are Nassau or Suffolk County residents in the 8th or 9th grade are eligible to audition. Students should inform his/her guidance counselor of his/her decision to apply to the Long Island High School for the Arts, so the appropriate district procedure is followed to file an application.

    Students who attend the Long Island High School for the Arts come from both Nassau and Suffolk Counties and reflect the diverse racial and cultural composition of Long Island.

  • For Performing Arts:

    Directions: Applicants interested in this pathway can choose to submit an audition in dance, theatre, musical theatre, or music performance (vocal or instrumental).

    Option #1: Drama/ Musical Theatre

    · Please upload one song and one monologue, as separate files.

    Songs

    · Musical theatre, applicants should prepare 1 song. The song can be a ballad or up-tempo and can be contemporary or classic and 32 bars minimum. This piece should be accompanied by live piano or an instrumental track. No acapella signing.

    Monologues

    · Both drama/musical theatre applicants should prepare 1 monologue. Monologues must be from a published play and cannot be from television shows, or movies.

    · Long Island High School for the Arts has a suggested monologue and song list, however, applicants are not required to select from the list.

     

    Option #2: Vocal, Digital or Instrumental Music

    · Applicants should prepare a vocal/ instrumental solo selection of approximately 2 minutes in length from any genre of music (including pieces composed by the applicant.)

    · Digital music applicants should submit two contrasting recordings or manuscripts of their work.

    · Students are encouraged to pick a style of music that reflects their musical interests, and may sing or play any song for the audition. If it is a vocal selection, it suggested that it not mimic a popular performer’s style, but rather display originality and technical proficiency.

    · Long Island High School for the Arts has a suggested monologue and song list, however, applicants are not required to select from the list.

    Option #3: Dance

    · Applicants should upload a 90-second dance solo in any genre of dance.

     

    For Digital & Media Arts:

    Directions: Applicants interested in this pathway can choose to submit samples of their work in either visual/fine art, digital art (or a combination of both), or film.

    Option #1: Visual/Fine Art: Please upload your visual/fine art pieces. You may submit up to 10 pieces. Which may include:

    · Photographs of three-dimensional works of art (e.g. sculptures).

    · Paintings and/or drawings.

    · Original architectural drawings of student-designed structures.

    Option #2 Digital Art: Please upload your digital art pieces. You may submit up to 10 pieces. Which may include:

    · Artistic photographs

    · Electronic works, such as animations, digital “drawings” or “paintings”

    · A link to a website you designed

    · An original logo created in photoshop

    Option #3 Film: Please upload samples of your film work, which may include:

    · A screenplay excerpt of up to 10 pages.

    · A sample film or other digital content of up to 5 minutes. (Maximum file size 150 MB)

    · A storyboard (with a minimum of ten frames) depicting a scene from imagination

     

    For Production & Managerial Arts:

    Directions: Applicants interested in this pathway can choose to submit up to 10 samples of the following:

    · Original artistic scenic designs for theatrical productions.

    · Original fashion/costume designs or completed pieces.

    · Photographs of special effects make-up application.

    · Copies of a stage manager’s script with notated staging and blocking

    · A written directorial concept for a play or musical
