$7,500 in total cash awards including $1,500 Best in Show and $1,000 David Levinson Photography Award.
Juror: Seth Feman is the Curator of Exhibitions and Curator of Photography at the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Virginia. He received his BA in art history from Vassar College and his MA and Ph.D. in American studies from the College of William and Mary. In his juror’s statement, he writes: Works that typically captivate me most are those that balance technique and expression.
Eligibility: Artists age 18 and up living in Virginia may submit up to three original works completed within the last two years and not previously shown at CHTAC. All media, styles, techniques and subject matter are eligible.
Entry Requirements: Two‑dimensional entries must be framed and ready for hanging with hook eyes and wire. Frames, mats, and glass or plexiglass should be clean and presented in a professional manner. White or off‑white mats are suggested. Neither saw‑tooth hangers nor wet paint will be accepted. Works should not exceed 60" in any direction including the frame and 150 lbs maximum weight. Accepted works must remain for the duration of the show. CHTAC reserves the right to refuse entry to works with unusual installation requirements or otherwise judged unsuitable. No substitutions or extractions will be allowed once work is selected.
Submission: Enter online by going to our website, HamptonArts.net OR Artists may submit 1 digital image each for up to three individual works on 1 CD. Each digital images should be approximately 5”x 7” at 300 dpi jpg files (at least 500 kb but no more than 3 MB). Files should be labeled as: Last name_First name_(1,2 or 3 depending on the number of entries)_Title of work.JPG . Label the CD with your name. Please select the one best view and submit 1 best image of three-dimensional works. Please do not include details.
Application and Fees: Applications must be received at The Charles H. Taylor Arts Center by Sunday, June 3, 5:00 pm. Each application must be accompanied by the entry fee and 1 CD with 1 digital image of each submitted artwork. The non-refundable fee of $35 ($30 for Hampton Arts League members) covers application and exhibition expenses. Make checks payable to Hampton Arts, or call 757-727-1490 to charge to your credit card.
Delivery and pick up of work: Selected, hand-delivered artworks will be accepted at The Charles H. Taylor Arts Center on Saturday or Sunday, August 11 or 12 from 1:00-5:00. Shipped works must arrive at CHTAC no later than Wednesday, August 8. Work will not be accepted after this date and time. Shipped works must be in reusable containers and must be accompanied by return shipping fees. Identification labels must be affixed to the back of the work with tape or other removable methods, and each piece should also have a permanent identification on the back with the artist’s name and title of the piece. Works selected should be picked up promptly on Sunday, October 7, 5:00-6:00 pm or Monday, October 8, 10:00-6:00.Work not retrieved by October 14, 5:00 pm will become the property of CHTAC.
Sales Commission: The sale price on your entries should include the 30% CHTAC commission. CHTAC will collect the 6% Virginia State sales tax.
Insurance: Artworks will be insured for the sales price (less 30% commission) from the time of delivery (August 11) until the end of designated pick-up dates (October 14).
Resumes & Artists Statements: Selected artists are requested to provide a 1-4 page resume and brief artist’s statement about their selected entries when they deliver artwork or preferably via email as Word attachments to artscom@hampton.gov.
