Setting up a recording environment can be a challenge for those just starting out recording. However, know that we're not looking for sound-booth quality here but we do have some suggestions.
Your audio sounds best when it's dampened meaning it can't bounce off of anything. This is why recording in a closet is one of the cheapest and best ways to get quality audio! You may feel stupid but all of those clothes dampen the sound extremely well.
If you can't drag your laptop into the closet, try not to record in an empty room. Hang up blankets on the walls or anything soft just to prevent the sound from bouncing back.
