2026 RULES FOR JUNIOR/TEEN/MISS VAN ZANDT COUNTY
This is NOT a glitz pageant; you are not allowed to have props with your child.
This is a local county fair pageant that is meant for you and your child to have a good experience.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Contestant must be at least a part-time resident of Van Zandt County or attend a Van Zandt County school or participated in the Van Zandt County Fair Pageant in previous years and be within the correct age category (10-19) as of the date of the pageant.
(1) Contestants MUST be of good moral character.
(2) Contestants must not be pregnant or ever before conceived a child.
(3) Contestants must be enrolled in school or graduated school at the time of the contest.
(4) Contestants must agree to fulfill all obligations as specified and further abide by all rules and regulations governing this contest. If the winner cannot fulfill her reign, the first runner up shall succeed her.
DRESS CODE FOR PAGEANT: (Please arrive dressed accordingly)
Evening Wear:
- 10-12 years: Short party dress, appropriate short pageant dress, tea-length dresses
- 13-15 years: appropriate short pageant dress, tea-length dresses or modest prom dress will be acceptable
- 16-19 years: appropriate short pageant dress, tea-length dresses or modest prom dress will be acceptable
Western Wear:
- Denim Skirt or Jeans; Western Shirt, Boots, Hat Optional
Interview Wear:
- Church or Spring dress or Pant suit (slacks)
Talent Competition:
- Must be pre-approved by Pageant Board, and attire must fit the talent that is being performed.
NOT CONFORMING TO THE DRESS CODE MAY CAUSE DISQUALIFICATION!

DEADLINE:
Entries must be postmarked by Friday, February 6, 2026.
· There will be an additional late fee of $50.00 per entry for those postmarked after February 7th till February 22nd.
· Friday, February 6, 2026 is the deadline is for the pageant entry.
No refunds will be given after February 22nd!!

JUDGING:
Each contestant will be judged on the following: Personality, Poise, Beauty, Posture, Apparel and Interview. All winners must be able to represent the Van Zandt County Fair Association and Van Zandt County at various events throughout the year, including the Van Zandt County Fair in 2026.
ORIENTATION:
Sunday, February 22, 2026 at 2:00 p.m., in the Todd Berry Building located on the Van Zandt County Fairgrounds. A photographer will be set up to take a head shot of your child for the program at no charge.

REHEARSAL/PRACTICE:
Sunday, March 22, 2026 at 3:00 p.m., in the Todd Berry Building located on the Van Zandt County Fairgrounds. A parent or guardian MUST be at the practice because number order will be determined. If you are not able to attend, please call/email and let one of us know.
PAGEANT SCHEDULE: Saturday, March 28, 2026
If you are late you still may participate, but points will be deducted.
9:00 a.m. Western Wear Competition followed by the Talent Competition
1:00 p.m. Interview Competition
3:00 p.m. Party/Evening Gown Competition
Crowning will be Saturday evening at 4:00 p.m. If finalist does not return for crowning they will forfeit their title and it will be awarded to the next eligible contestant.
INTERVIEW:
Interviews will be held at the Todd Berry Building located on the Van Zandt County Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 28th at 2:00 p.m.
PHOTOGENIC:
This is an optional category your child may enter. The additional amount to enter this category is $20.00. They will be judged by Independent Judges. Please submit a recent 5x7 photo, taken within the last 3 months. If your photo is not a 5x7, it will be disqualified. The photo has to be in our hands by the day or orientation! No Exceptions, we will refund any entries that are not recieved by the end of orientation.
TALENT RULES/ REGULATIONS:
This is an optional category your child may enter. The additional amount to enter this category is $20.00.
1. Each contestant will be allowed a maximum of FOUR (4) minutes to perform. The stopwatch will begin when the performance of the talent team starts (i.e. singing, playing, or music begins, etc.) The stopwatch will run throughout the performance and end when the contestant is completely finished.
2. Order of performance will be determined prior to the talent contest at the rehearsal.
3. Talent will have a chance to rehearse on-stage prior to the pageant.
4. The following standards of dress will be enforced:
a. No clothing with obscene or suggestive lettering or pictures
b. No clothing with beer, alcoholic beverage, drug, violence and/or sex promotions
c. No see-though shirts, blouses or shorts
d. No blouses or shirts that expose the midriff
e. Dresses, skirts, slits in dresses and shorts must be no shorter than extended finger length.
f. Other items not listed, but considered to be inappropriate will not be allowed. Decisions concerning dress by the pageant directors are final. Contestants are encouraged to discuss clothing which may be questionable with the pageant directors during rehearsal.
5. No vulgar, profane, or inappropriate language will be tolerated. Reference to alcohol, drugs, violence or sex, will not be tolerated. Decisions concerning lyrics by the pageant directors are final. Contestants are encouraged to discuss lyrics which may be questionable with the pageant directors during rehearsal.
6. There will be no derogatory references -- nothing in the songs or performance -- related to race, color, creed, or sex. No vulgar language or actions will be tolerated.
SCHOLARSHIP:
Scholarships will be awarded to the top two individuals, in the Miss Van Zandt County Fair division, who participate in all 6 categories (western wear, talent, interview, party/evening wear, photogenic, and ad sales). If there are not a minimum of 2 contestants in the Miss category, the board will determine which categories will be competing for scholarship money.
PHOTOGRAPHER:
There will not be a photographer available during the pageant. A backdrop with props will be available for you to take your own pictures if you choose. Please be respectful of the amount of time and noise you are making.
