Writing Space
We want to provide each novel retreat participant with space in which to work on your writing that will be most comfortable for you.
Participants who are staying on campus will be housed in Dewey Hall. Most of our writing studio spaces are available in Noble Hall, a separate dormitory building with event space. Dorm studio rooms, located on the 2nd and 3rd floor of Noble Hall, are basic but offer natural light, a desk and chair, table lamp, etc. There is a shared lounge area as well.
You may also opt to use the VCFA library as your work space; the library has large tables, a full computer lab (with Mac and PC computers), and smaller work tables scattered throughout. While all Retreat participants will have access to the library during the retreat week for research and/or printing needs, we will assign a select number of participants to have 24/7 access to the library as their main work space. (Library spaces for the 2020 retreat are at full capacity as of 3/12/20.)
Alternatively, many participants prefer to work in their main dorm room and utilize informal spaces throughout campus such as the college Cafe during open hours or the campus green (weather permitting).
NOTE: WiFi is available in all spaces, campus wide. There is a full computer lab available for use in the libary.
